The power of accountability

Our lives are often full of clutter, busyness, rushing, overwhelm, noise and distractions. This doesn’t leave us with an environment or routines that promote a regulated nervous system.

On a scale of 1-10, how intentional and focused do you think you are in your daily life?

If you’re anything like me, you’re likely easily distracted from priorities and feel overwhelmed. Lately, I’ve been closer to an 8 on this scale (as I’ve been focusing on intentionality), but a few years ago my answer would’ve been very different. I tried to be a 10, but in reality I was only applying at maybe a 2… OOF!

I put in the effort, stress and struggle of living intentionally, but I struggled to actually implement it.

Where would you put yourself on this scale? Share it in the comments! There’s no shame if you’re a zero, and don’t worry about pride if you’re a 10! All answers are valid, and they do not reflect your value. Naming how we’re doing and seeing how others are doing helps us to be accountable. When others can see and cheer our progress, we can celebrate together! When those around us know we’re struggling, they can offer support and a helping hand. This sort of community accountability is biblical.

“Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17

Having people with whom we can hold ourselves accountable helps us to better show up for ourselves. We know we aren’t going through life alone, and we have a community who is there to support and celebrate (and sometimes correct) us along the way.

When we show up better for ourselves, every part of our lives will begin to show it. Our lives begin to lose some of that clutter, and we can better regulate our nervous systems and handle daily stressors. We can also better show up for others.
